Equipment vs Components. Both terms are often used interchangeably. Here’s the distinction between them when they are not.
The equipment for a game, sometimes called implements, designates all components needed to play it, required by its rules. The box, insert or rulebook are components that are generally not part of the equipment (well, box bottom boards make the box part of the equipment of certain games.)
However, a game’s equipment or components shouldn’t be confused with accessories.
And of course the rules themselves are required for playing — but not the physical booklet included in the game. I see what you did, there.
