Table Wear

28/09/2017 | Paul Dussault

Discoloration, scratches, frayed edges and other marks that regular play inevitably leaves on game components like cards, tiles or counters.

Example of use: Sleeving protects cards from table wear.

The two words making up table wear are commonly used in gaming.

Terms with the -wear suffix. Among them are terms describing  the part of the game that sustained the damage, like card wear or corner wear, and those describing the cause of the damage, like table wear or shelf wear.

Terms with the table- prefix. What else would you expect. Tabletop, table presence and table footprint are a few examples.

Note: Table wear sometimes refers to table cloths used for gaming, like those made of felt. Example: I have read posts about the customisation of board game themed table wear.
